What is Counselling and Psychotherapy?

Counselling and Psychotherapy are very similar, counselling is generally seen as shorter term and Psychotherapy longer term.

What does integrative mean?

Integrative counselling draws on techniques from different types of therapy to tailor an approach specifically for you. An integrative counsellor believes there isn't just one therapeutic approach that can help a client in all situations. For example some therapists may choose to use CBT techniques with their clients, integrative counsellors draw on a range of ideas.

What will happen during a session?

During a session you will have 50 minutes to talk about whatever is on your mind, it is different to talking to a friend or partner as I will reflect back to you what you are saying to help you gain insight or new perspectives, I will also draw attention to patterns of behaviour or thinking which may be blocking you from truly being yourself. I will offer you my empathy and unconditional positive regard, ethically and professionally, so you feel valued and supported.

How many sessions will I need?

This really depends on you and how you are feeling. Some people are in therapy briefly and others have therapy for many years. There will be no expectation from me about how many sessions you need but I just ask that you give me at least two weeks notice before you wish to end.
